Privacy Policy

Overview
MatchFetch is a browser extension that helps you fetch and explore your DNA match data from AncestryDNA and 23andMe. Your privacy is a core part of the design — all processing happens entirely inside your browser.
MatchFetch is not affiliated with AncestryDNA or 23andMe.
Data Collection
MatchFetch does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data on any server. There are no analytics, no tracking, and no telemetry of any kind.
- No account creation or sign-in required
- No data is sent to any third-party server
- No cookies are set by the extension
- No usage statistics are collected
How Your Data Is Handled
When you use MatchFetch to fetch your DNA match data, the following happens:
- The extension makes authenticated requests to AncestryDNA's or 23andMe's servers on your behalf, using your existing browser session.
- The retrieved data (match lists, profiles, ethnicity estimates, ancestral journeys, haplogroups, grandparent birth locations) is stored locally in your browser using IndexedDB.
- All data remains on your device. Nothing is uploaded, shared, or transmitted elsewhere.
What Data Is Stored
Locally, MatchFetch stores:
- Your DNA profile identifiers and match lists
- Match profile information (names, photos, relationship data)
- Ethnicity estimates, trace ancestry, and ancestral journey data
- Y-DNA and mtDNA haplogroups, and grandparent birth locations
This data never leaves your browser. You can delete it at any time by clearing the extension's data or removing the profile from within the extension.
Data Export and Deletion
You have full control over your data:
- Export — Download all your match data as a JSON file at any time using the Export button in the extension.
- Import — Restore data from a previous export.
- Delete — Clear individual profile data or remove the extension entirely to delete all stored data.
Changes to This Policy
If this privacy policy changes, the "Last updated" date at the top will be revised. Since the extension does not collect your data, no notification of changes is necessary — but significant changes will be noted in the extension's version release notes.
